Scooter Maintenance Tips
It is hard to find a good scooter mechanic. I would try to find one through a scooter magazine. This is the best way to find someone passionate and specialized in scooters.
A scooter is a two-wheeler that is very similar to a motor cycle. The look of the scooter differs from that of a motorcycle and has a flat board design for the seat with a step through frame.
Those who want the space up front now prefer riding a scoter because of its slim and sleek design. The spacious design of the front of the scooter is comfortable for the riders to ride for a long time. Also, the body and the leg shield of the scooter hides the inner mechanics giving a more stylish outlook for the scooter.
You must take care of your scooter properly if you want to ride with it for a long time. Just like any other vehicle, scooter is made of mechanical and electrical parts that require proper maintenance. The design is highly sophisticated that is robust, but requires proper care at the same time.
To maintain your scooter so that you can ride smoothly, you have to follow certain tips:
Compression check is essential
When you have bought a new scooter, you must first do the compression check. This will save any future damage and if any malfunctioning is seen, you can report to the manufacturer immediately. You have to check the engine oil frequently and add a little at times. You need to change the oil only if it becomes very dirty.
You have to run the compression check only when the engine is warm. If there is a good compression in the vehicle, you should get readings like 100-150 psi or above. You can hook up the compression gauge and release the throttle to keep the engine warm during compression checks. If the reading is less, then it means that there is a problem in the piston rings and valves.
Tire pressure
When you ride your scooter, you have to ensure that the pressure in the tire is always optimal. Otherwise, you will be in trouble while on your ride. The reading should fall between 30-35 psi.
Transmission oil
You have to change the transmission oil at least once a year to maintain your scooter in a good condition.
Spark plugs
The spark plug should be at an appropriate distance from the fuel tank. The ideal gap of the spark plug is 0.024-0.028 inches. You should check for the spark by removing the plug and grounding it to the engine. Then you have to kick the engine and if you get a grumpy blue spark, then everything is in proper condition. If not, then you have to check the plug.
Gasoline stabilizer should be used
If you are a person who will not use the scooter frequently then you have to use a gasoline stabilizer to keep the gasoline fresh always.
